Illinois authorities have offered a reward of up to $10K leading to the arrest of the person who shot and killed a Chicago mother of five who was gunned down while heading to church on Sunday, January 17th.
Kiara Jenkins, 36, of the Washington Heights neighborhood according to investigators was shot multiple times in an alley behind her home near 64th and Drexel in Woodlawn in the City’s South Side, just on 4.30 a.m.

At the time of the shooting, Jenkins was en route to Mt. Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church for their 5 a.m. service, which she attended regularly according to church members, ABC7 Chicago reported.
At the time of the shooting, Jenkins had momentarily left her home by foot as she made her way to morning church services.
‘This was a senseless act of violence that never should have happened,’ wrote 20th Ward Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor in a statement Tuesday. ‘This tragedy has shaken our community deeply.’
‘Her children are now left without their mother,’ Taylor added. ‘No words can lessen that pain, but it is important to say clearly that her life had value and her family deserves support, compassion and justice. Our children and families deserve protection, stability and the chance to live without fear.’
Was Woodlawn, Chicago mom killed in targeting shooting?
The mother of five was devoted to her children and to her faith according to community members. Jenkins’ children range from a freshman in college to 10 years old according to WBBM.
Investigators had yet to say whether they believe the mother was intentionally targeted or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Jenkins family said she would’ve celebrated her 37th birthday this Sunday and described her as a very religious person who dedicated herself to her church.
