Peyton Peoples, Detroit teen, 16, admits giving birth alone after first saying she found baby on porch as mom, Kira now rallies behind daughter.
A 16 year old Detroit, Michigan girl has admitted to giving birth to a newborn after initially telling her mother that she had ‘found a newborn’ on the porch.
Peyton Peoples had initially told her mom, Kira Peoples that she had found the newborn on the family porch on Thanksgiving Day while her mom was out.
Kira went on social media to ask for people’s help and donations for clothes for the newborn. The mom also called 911 with Detroit police taking Peyton to hospital so that she could be ruled out as the baby’s mother.

But that of course is where everything went upside down.
Peyton confessed that the baby was actually hers. The teen told medics that she didn’t know she was pregnant (is that possible ….?) and had given birth to her son, whom she’s named Paxton, on the toilet.
The teen admitted being terrified and concocting the story of finding the newborn baby being abandoned on the family front door.
Speaking about why she initially lied to her mom, Peyton told Fox 2 Detroit: ‘It’s hard. It was already hard for her to raise us, and that just added another burden on her back, and I didn’t want to do that.’
But Kira sees baby Paxton as a ‘blessing’ but was sad that her young daughter gave birth on her own.
Discussing them moment she gave birth, Peyton recalled: ‘I was laying in bed and my water broke, so I went into the bathroom and had Paxton.
‘I cleaned him off and then looked up on TikTok how to cut my umbilical cord. I cut the cord and then wiped him off again.’

As Kira is already a single mother of four kids, and Peyton is still in school, along with Peyton’s dad being shot and killed in a robbery seven months prior, the family created a GoFundMe page to help raise money towards the newborn’s future and to support the rest of the family.
Stated Kira: ‘Our family is facing a situation we never saw coming. My 16-year-old daughter Peyton recently gave birth at home without knowing she was pregnant. She was scared and alone, and in her panic, she told me that someone had left a baby on our porch.
‘We called the police, and the baby was taken to the hospital. When officers asked us to come in to rule out any connection, she finally broke down and told the truth.’
She continued: ‘Baby Paxton was never on the porch at any point. He is a healthy baby boy.
‘I plan to work the midnight shift while my daughter Peyton goes back to school so we can both take care of the new blessing.’
Under Michigan’s Safe Delivery law, a parent or parents can safely and legally surrender their newborn, no more than 3 days old.
