Ladejah Shaw, Jacksonville, Florida substitute teacher arrested for encouraging middle class students to fight at Duval County school.
A substitute teacher at a middle school in Duval County, Jacksonville, Florida is accused of encouraging a fight between students on campus.
Ladejah Shaw, 29, was charged with felony child neglect, after investigators determined she allowed and encouraged two students to fight while under her supervision back in October according to The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
At the time of the alleged episode, Shaw was acting as a substitute teacher at the middle school. According to school police, Shaw had her class outside when students formed a circle around two classmates. Several students recorded the moments leading up to the fight on their phones, including video showing Shaw urging the middle school students to begin fighting.

After reviewing the footage and interviewing witnesses, Duval County School Police concluded Shaw intentionally permitted the altercation. Come Wednesday night, officers arrested Shaw at her apartment.
The educator was charged with two counts of felony child neglect and two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child.
Officials emphasized that educators are expected to protect and guide students—not put them in harm’s way, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook release.
