Hoover Alabama murder-suicide: Christina Chambers former WBRC FOX 6 reporter and Cullman native and husband Johnny Rimes found dead in suspected murder-suicide. Couple’s 3 year old son found unharmed at residence. No known motive. 

A 3 year old boy has lost his parents after the toddler’s father and mother were found deceased in a suspected murder-suicide himself at their Hoover, Alabama home, Tuesday morning.

Christina Chambers a former WBRC Sports Reporter and 2006 Cullman High School graduate was confirmed to be shot and killed just on 9 a.m, Tuesday morning. Also found dead from a gunshot wound was her husband, Johnny Rimes

Cause and manner of Hoover-AL murder-suicide yet to be released

Hoover Police in a press release described the incident as an apparent murder-suicide without releasing further details on the circumstances, who initiated the gun violence along with the weapon used.

Police arrived at the scene, at the 700 block of Highland Manor Court, just off Sulphur Springs Road, in Hoover, Birmingham, discovered the boy’s mother and father deceased. The couple’s son,  Constantine was found at the residence ‘unharmed’.

Hoover Fire-Medics pronounced the couple dead from gunshot wounds the Hoover Police Department announced.

Hoover Police were called to the home after Chambers and her husband were found unresponsive by a family member around 9 a.m, WBRC reported.

Storied and gilded career as authorities now investigate tragedy

Chambers joined WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham in November 2015 before leaving her full-time role in 2021. Chambers, however, continued as a freelancer for the network, contributing to WBRC’s sports show Sideline as recently as during the 2025 football season.

Chambers was working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama in a corporate communications role at the time of her death according to the Shelby Counter Reporter.

‘We are absolutely heartbroken to share this news,’ WBRC shared on its Facebook page. ‘We have confirmed former WBRC sports reporter Christina Chambers is one of the two people found dead in a Hoover home Tuesday morning.’

At the time of joining FOX6, Chambers had more than five years of experience covering the SEC, ACC, C-USA, and high school sports throughout Alabama and Georgia, according to her former Fox 6 website profile.

No known motive

Explained neighbor, Charles Maple, ‘She was just a beautiful person. And, she was a great athlete. And she’s, she loved her new job. Love what she did in the past. You always talked about it, you know, was the kind of person that, you know, she was special. You know, I’m 80 years old now, and I’ve seen a lot of people. But you always come across somebody when, you know, they got it and she had it.’

Prior to joining Fox 6, Chambers served as a sports reporter and anchor at WAKA in Montgomery, AL reported.

She began her broadcast career as a sports and news reporter at WLTZ NBC38 in Columbus, Georgia, before joining the regional sports network Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta.

At CSS, she served as the Auburn University beat reporter and sideline reporter for Friday night high school football games.

Chambers was a native of Cullman and an avid runner who was a four-year Division 1A scholarship athlete at UAB in cross country and track where she received a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Christina married husband Johnny Rimes in 2021 before couple welcoming son

Chambers married her husband in 2021 and began a new career as a TV and film advisor at Thompson High School.

In 2024, she was named the Alabama Scholastic Press Association’s Advisor of the Year after being nominated by her students.

Chambers was also an avid distance runner who lettered for four years at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a student-athlete and continued to race 5Ks, half-marathons and marathons around the world following graduation. She most recently ran in the 2025 Rome Marathon. Chambers was a three-time Boston Marathon finisher, and 2026 was set to be her fourth as a participant.

A devout Catholic, Chambers regularly shared her love of God, running and sports with the community on social media.

The Hoover Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the two deaths.
