Ahmed al Ahmed, Sydney man id as Bondi Beach hero bystander who disarmed one of two shooting suspects during bloodbath that left 12 dead, 29 injured. One gunman dead, second in critical condition. 

A bystander who risked his own life to tackle and disarm one of the Bondi Beach gunmen has been identified as a 43 year old father of two and owner of a Sydney fruit shop.

Ahmed al Ahmed, a Sydney local who owns a fruit shop in Sutherland, come Sunday night has been hailed a national hero after preempting one of the two gunmen from unleashing further terror during Sunday’s mass shooting at Bondi Beach which left 12 dead and 29 injured. Officials believe the two gunmen targeted Jewish festive goers who had come for Hanukkah celebrations at the iconic beach.

According to newsroom.au, the Sydney man was walking past when he saw one of the shooters firing off at beachgoers.

Footage showed Ahmed, wearing a white shirt, crouching behind a car in the carpark meters away from one of the shooters.

In between shots, the hero bystander rushed through cars and grabbed the gunman in a headlock from behind.

After a struggle lasting about five seconds, Ahmed was able to seize the shotgun, with captured cellphone footage showing the shooter falling backwards.

The man pointed the gun at the shooter, who walked back towards the bridge while looking over his shoulder.

Second gunman continued to fire after other gunman was disarmed

He can be seen in new footage sitting on the ground while bystanders tend to what appears to be an injury on his leg.

In the clip, posted to Instagram, @crazynewsinsydney the poster, said that ‘man was injured but his courage gave others time to escape.’ A follow up report (see above video) told of the hero bystander incurring two gunshot wounds to his arm and in surgery according to a relative. 

The second shooter, since identified as 24 year old Pakistani national, Naveed Akram, is seen in the same video on the raised bridge nearby, ducking up and down as he exchanges fire with police who are seen sheltering behind cars.

He frantically gestures for his disarmed companion to join him back on the bridge.

Ahmed and another man are seen still crouched by the tree by the shotgun. His companion appears to then be shot.

Moments later, an officer approaches from the direction behind the bridge, shooting the gunman dead.

The second man was taken into custody suffering injuries.
