Rodrigo Franco Chicago teen working at Burger King on the Southwest Side shot dead in drive by shooting as authorities investigate. 

A 17-year-old boy working at a Chicago Burger King drive thru was shot and killed in a drive by shooting over the weekend.

Rodrigo Franco a senior at a nearby Curie high school was working at the Southwest Side Burger King on Sunday evening when police say a Jeep SUV pulled up at the fast food restaurant in the Archer Heights neighborhood on South Pulaski Road and fired off gunshots.

Southwest Side teen was working shift at Burger King drive thru when he was struck by gunfire

Franco who working inside the drive thru was struck in the head and rushed in critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The SUV’s driver fled the scene in an unknown direction, ABC7Chicago reported citing police.

Not immediately clear was whether the shooting was a random act of gun violence or whether the 17-year-old boy had been intentionally targeted.

The victim’s mother told WGN News Franco enjoyed soccer, playing video games and often having coffee with her. 

Wrote the victim’s brother, Anthony Franco in a GoFundme post, He was a 17-year-old boy who enjoyed working and being with his family and friends. Rodrigo was a nice, gentle, smart young man. He never did any wrong to anyone or ever wanted to harm anyone. Today, I hope you guys can help me and my family pay for the funeral expenses.

News of the slaying shocked neighbors.

Southwest Side gang violence 

‘I don’t know why they would have shot him,’ neighbor Sylvia Romero told WGN News. Romero said that Franco and his older brother were good people who were quiet and not gang-affiliated.

‘No parties, Quiet people, very kind, respectful boys.’

Authorities to date have not identified any suspects or made any arrests.
