A mass shooting at a children’s birthday party in Stockton, California, Saturday night has led to four dead and ten injured according to authorities. The suspect gunman continues to be at large.
According to a Facebook release by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened before 6:00 p.m., near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton.
The shooting is alleged to have occurred at a banquet hall where a family and guests had gathered for a children’s birthday party. Notice of gunshots rang out near a Dairy Queen and other businesses along Thornton Road, the release stated.

Targeted mass shooting at Stockton children’s birthday party
Heather Brent, Public Information Officer with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office during a Saturday night briefing stated that there had been 14 victims, four of them deceased. Brent said that an ‘active investigation’ was in place and information was very limited.
Brent further stated that ‘several victims had been transported to local hospitals.’ Victims ranged from children to adults, officials stated.
Early indications suggest the shooting may have been a targeted incident police said, with investigators now exploring all possibilities. Detectives were actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
‘This remains an active scene, and deputies are working to gather additional details. Information is still being confirmed and will be released as it becomes available,’ the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office stated.

No known motive, suspect remains at large
‘Tonight, my heart is heavy in a way that’s hard to put into words,’ Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee posted on Facebook shortly after 7 p.m. ‘As Vice Mayor of Stockton — and as someone who grew up in this community — I am devastated and angry to learn about the mass shooting at a child’s birthday party. An ice cream shop should never be a place where families fear for their lives.’
Officers have warned residents to stay out of the area.
Stockton is located along the San Joaquin River in central California.
No known motive was immediately known, including the shooter suspect’s identity who police believe continued to remain at large.
