The single gunshot struck the eleven year old as the boy sat in the back of the family vehicle.
The incident happened just on 7.30 a.m, Friday along Interstate 215 in Henderson, 16 miles south of Las Vegas according to the Henderson Police Department.
After the shooting, police say that the boy’s stepfather ‘rammed’ the suspect’s vehicle with his car, causing both to stop in the middle of the freeway. Both stepped out of their vehicles, with both men proceeding to engage in a ‘heated exchange,’ cops stated.
A police officer was hailed down by an unspecified individual, who later took the suspect into custody, police said during a Friday press conference. Emergency personnel and medical professionals at a nearby hospital rendered aid to the boy, but despite their ‘best efforts,’ the boy succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide detectives arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect on charges of open murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, police said.
Police Chief Reggie Rader described the tragedy as a ‘senseless act.’
