Shamaree Bell-Brown, Charlotte, North Carolina man stabbed to death by pregnant girlfriend, Maya Jena Jones during argument in victim’s mother’s kitchen. Fatal stabbing follows prior domestic violence episode in December.
A Charlotte, North Carolina man has died after being fatally stabbed to death by his 20 year old pregnant girlfriend.
Maya Jena Jones (20), is accused of stabbing Shamaree Bell-Brown, also 20 years old, to death during a heated argument amid the early morning hours of Monday, WCNC reported.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a home on Burkland Drive in the Charlotte’s Grier Heights neighborhood, just on 2 a.m., Monday morning, March 24th.
Responding police found the 20 year old man with stab wounds and took him to hospital where he was declared dead.
Jones appeared in court on Tuesday and was given no bond. She remains in custody at Mecklenburg County jail. and is next scheduled to appear in court on April 11, WBTV reported.
A police affidavit stated that Jones and Bell-Brown were arguing when Jones grabbed a knife during the argument and stabbed Bell-Brown, who began strangling her. Jones stabbed him multiple times, and he was later pronounced dead.
At some point during the ‘dispute’, Shamaree’s mother tried to intercede, in a bid to seperate the fighting boyfriend and girlfriend. Maya according to the arrest affidavit is alleged to have reached around the mother and stabbed the boyfriend.
Paramedics arrived to find Shamaree bleeding heavily. He was rushed to the hospital, only to mortally succumb to his injuries.
Speaking to WSOC-TV, the victim’s mother, Shay Brown recalled witnessing the stabbing in the kitchen while trying to breaking them up during a fight.
‘I turned the light on, and he was holding his chest, and I looked, and his shirt just started filling with blood,’ she told the outlet.
‘He said, ‘Ma! Please don’t let this happen to me. Mommy, help me,’’ Shay Jones said.
The mother held her son, talking to him as he slowly started to slip away.
‘Shamaree, you’re going to be OK,’ Shay Brown recalled telling her son. ‘Shamaree said, ‘I’m OK.’ My son never responded after that. I watched my baby’s life slowly leave his body on my kitchen floor.’
The affidavit states that Jones is pregnant and that she was in a relationship with Bell-Brown. It remained unclear if the pregnant woman’s unborn child was that of the slain man.
According to court records, Jones was charged in December 2024 with simple assault and misdemeanor domestic violence. Shamaree Bell-Brown had ‘scratches on his chest and neck’ during an argument.
