Melody and Adam Greenwood, Muncie, Indiana parents charged with child neglect after zip tying 10 year old son and forcing boy to stand in corner for 12 hours along with depriving him of food.
An Indiana couple are alleged to have zip tied their 10 year old ‘mis-behaving’ son and forced the boy to stand in a corner for ten to twelve hours while covering his head with a towel so he couldn’t watch TV.
Melody, 38, and Adam Greenwood, 36, of Muncie, accused of child neglect, also ‘nutritionally’ neglected the young boy, feeding him only canned vegetables as his seven siblings feasted on fast foods and sweets, according to the Star Press.
Upon their arrests, Melody Greenwood and Adam Greenwood were each charged with multiple counts of neglect of a dependent.
Siblings were directed to beat up boy if he ever spoke or stepped away from wall
The couple first became a focus of investigators after the couple’s emaciated son was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie earlier week. It was while treating the boy that responding medics suspected the ‘extremely skinny’ boy who had scars on his wrists (from the zip-ties) was being subjected to ongoing abuse.
During their investigations, police discovered the child’s parents singling out the boy and only feeding him canned good and no snacks on account of the 10 year old being grounded, FOX59 reported.
According to court documents, police then spoke to the other children who confirmed that the 10-year-old was the only one of eight children who was treated this way. They said the rest of the family tended to eat normal food ‘such as cheeseburgers and fast food’ while the child’s primary meals came from cans.
Forced to stand in place for up to 12 hours as his punishment, the boy told cops his siblings were directed to ‘beat him up’ if he ever spoke or stepped away from the wall.
Melody Greenwood, charged with three counts of neglect, was freed after posting $15,000 bond, while Adam Greenwood, charged with two counts, was released on $10,000 bond.
The child abuse has since led to the Indiana Department of Child Services now launching an investigation.
