Molly Colleen Spears of Baytown, Texas and former Barbers Hill high school teacher re-arrested on additional charges stemming from original 2024 indictment.

From bad to worse… A former Chambers County, Texas teacher already booked and released on charges of having an improper relationship with a male student is facing additional charges stemming from the same investigation, this time for child sexual assault.

Molly Colleen Spears, 35, of Baytown, was re-arrested early Thursday morning on two separate felony warrants for Sexual Assault of a Child. If convicted of the 2nd degree felony, she could face 2-20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

The additional charges follow the educator on February 11, surrendering to the Mont Belvieu Police Dept on the initial charge of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student. Spears posted $50,000 bond and was released.

Additional interviews and investigations led to new charges against former Barber Hills teacher

According to Chief Jimmy Ellison with the Mont Belvieu Police Dept, the Chambers County District Attorney’s Office requested investigative assistance into new evidence of possible sexual assault of a child incidents that occurred in 2022 and 2023.

These new allegations were connected to a previously investigated case of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student conducted by the Barbers Hill ISD Police Department in 2023, KFDM reported.

Molly Colleen Spears was fired by Barbers Hill ISD after the allegations arose in June 2023 and indicted on February 8, 2024, only for a full year to be pass before being arrested.

It remained unclear why the former educator wasn’t taken into custody at the time.

Mont Belvieu PD Detectives, working with Chambers County DA’s Office Investigators, began conducting additional investigation and interviews following Spears arrest earlier this month.

Come Wednesday, February 26, MBPD Detectives obtained two separate felony arrest warrants for Spears on charges of Sexual Assault of a Child. Each warrant carries a separate $100,000 bond, for a total bond of $200.000.

Mont Belvieu PD Detectives arrested Spears Thursday morning and processed her at police headquarters before she was housed at the Chambers County Jail.

Chief Ellison speaking to reporters said he’s ‘appreciative of the inter-agency relationships and cooperative investigative efforts involved in this case.’

Chambers County District Attorney Cheryl Lieck Henry also expressed her appreciation.

‘Chambers County is blessed with law enforcement teams that care about kids and working together to ensure justice,” says Lieck. “My office is grateful for the collaboration exhibited here.’

Before being hired by Barbers Hill ISD in 2020, Spears was previously employed by Coldspring ISD from 2012 to 2014 and Texas City ISD from 2014 to 2020.
