A Texas man is facing murder charges after calling 911 admitting killing a ‘difficult’ roommate at the home they shared.

Douglas Ervin, 81, called 911 just after 9 p.m. on Thursday, telling dispatchers he had just shot roommate.

Asked if the man was still breathing, Ervin according to KDFW replied, ‘Nah, he’s dead.’

Police arrived at the home in Richardson and found Ervin outside on the front porch. They asked him if anyone else was inside, with the 81 year old allegedly responding, ‘The guy I shot and (another roommate).’

Investigators found the victim, Gregory Johnson, 59, dead outside a bedroom at the home. A third person was inside and not physically harmed. Responding officers found a shotgun at the scene.

During police questioning, Ervin told detectives Johnson was a difficult roommate who did things like leave the front door open along with leaving the lights and water on. He said that he shot him when he walked past his room and made a ‘rude’ comment.

Define rude?

Johnson was not approaching him or being threatening, the 81 year old conceded and did not have a weapon.

Ervin upon his arrest was charged with murder and held at the Dallas County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Richardson PD said the investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Police Department at 972-744-4800.

The roommate’s death is the latest in fatalities between disgruntled roommates resorting to violence.
