A 23-year-old man has been arrested in the murder of his 65 year old roommate, after the victim’s remains were found inside a suitcase floating along NYC’s East River according to reports.
Christian Millet is alleged to have ‘hacked’ the much older roommate, Edwin Echevarria and then dismembering the 65 year old following a fight over food, police sources announced on Thursday.
Millet upon his arrest Wednesday night, was charged with second-degree murder. The man’s arrest comes a week after Echevarria’s torso was found stuffed inside a suitcase floating near Governor’s Island, cops said.

NYC man stomped on roommate, then stabbed him 14 times with ice picket before stuffing body in suitcase and dumping it in East River
Millet allegedly confessed to knocking Echevarria to the floor, stomping on his head and using a makeshift ice pick to stab him 14 times inside their shared Columbia Street apartment, within NYCHA’s Baruch Houses on the Lower East Side, the NYPD said, the nypost reported.
During police questioning, Millet allegedly admitted to dragging the older roommate’s body to the bathtub and cutting it up with a kitchen knife, police sources told the nypost.
Notice of the ‘savage’ crime came after a passing vessel spotted a suitcase floating in the river and alerting police around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday last week, cops previously said.
Responding police opened the luggage whereupon they came upon the the torso zipped in a sleeping bag, ABC News reported.
It remained unclear how long the suitcase had been floating in the water.
Millet was arrested after police secured a search warrant for the apartment the two men shared according to the nytimes.
Millet was taken to the NYPD’s 7th Precinct, where he confessed, according to police sources.
The 23 year old does not have any prior arrests.
