Miami Beach Police, arrived at Norman’s Tavern, located at 6770 Collins Avenue, on Sunday after receiving reports of a battery. Trump anti immigration rhetoric emboldens MAGA base
The arrest report said the manager approached Nixon and told him to pay his bill and leave, to which Nixon responded, ‘I won’t pay any [expletive].’
After proceeding to breaking some glasses, Nixon according to captured surveillance told the bar manager, ‘Hola, English [expletive], I live in America. You speak English,” and [Expletive] Trump is going to deport your [expletive].’
Nixon is captured then punching an employee in the face before being punched in return. Nixon then left the bar with an outstanding bar tab of $130.81, NBC6 reported.
As police were speaking to the bar manager, Nixon returned to the bar and was taken into custody.
After a Miami Beach police officer testified in a court hearing Tuesday that the victims were Latino and the attack was racially-motivated, Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer found probable cause for all four charges and ordered Nixon held on a $5,450 bond, WPLG reported.
He remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of early Tuesday afternoon, jail records show.
The episode comes one day before Donald Trump issuing an executive order upon resuming Presidential office, suspending U.S. asylum law, including cancelling all scheduled appointments with migrant officers. Trump as part of his mandate to address illegal immigration and ‘making good’ on his election campaigning, including instructing officials to restart construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Other measures included Trump directing federal agencies to stop issuing passports, citizenship certificates and other documents to children born in the U.S. to mothers in the country illegally and fathers who are not citizens or legal permanent residents. The order has since led to American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups filing a lawsuit challenging the action in federal court.
Notes the nytimes, ‘Trump’s new measures have escalating an anti-immigration agenda that he has made the centerpiece of his political identity,’ and presumably appealed to his base MAGA voters.
