Elijah D. Caudill, Denver, Colorado man with prior criminal history goes on random stabbing spree, killing two, injuring two others over the weekend near 16th Street Mall. Fatal victim id as Celinda Levno, American Airlines flight attendant. Suspect id as ‘lost in the cracks’ who heard voices in his head according to his grandparents.

A 24-year-old Colorado man is accused of going on a violent stabbing spree at a Denver downtown mall over the weekend — killing two people and wounding two others in a series of random attacks over the course of Saturday and Sunday nights.

Elijah D. Caudill allegedly stabbed four complete strangers near the 16th Street Mall in Denver on Saturday night — knifing at least three of the victims between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. before his arrest, according to investigators.

One of the victims, identified as Celinda Levno, 71, of PhoenixArizona, was stabbed in the throat and died in the hospital on Sunday morning, police said.

Denver mall stabbing victim included AA flight attendant who been on layover

Levno was employed by American Airlines and had been exploring Denver during a layover. She had just celebrated her 35th anniversary with the airline — which said she ‘will always be remembered’ as a dedicated animal lover and friend in a statement released to Kens5

The first stabbing happened at around 5:10 p.m., according to police. A man was slashed in the face while he was leaving work and managed to get himself to the hospital without calling paramedics, cops said.

Levno was attacked just 10 minutes after the first victim.

The third victim, an adult man, was stabbed in the torso around 5:56 p.m. and was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive, cops said.

The first victim described the suspect as a white man roughly in his 20’s wearing a black hat and pants with a blue sweatshirt. Officers in the area saw a man matching the suspect’s description running nearby in a green winter coat with a large knife in his hand, and began to purse him, where he was captured and taken into custody, police said.

Officers said they recovered a knife that was covered in fresh blood.

Prior arrests, including sexual offenses

Not long after Caudill was arrested, a fourth victim was found with a large slash on his back. He was rushed to Denver Health but was pronounced dead later that night. His identity has not yet been released.

Investigators surmised the fourth victim had been stabbed and killed in the same area on Sunday night at around 8pm.

Investigators have found no connection between Caudill and the victims and have not determined a motive to the mass stabbing spree. Of note all four victims were alone at the time of their attacks.

Elijah Caudill’s arrest follows the perp having a lengthy prior rap sheet, including four failure-to-appear warrants in Denver for misdemeanor arrests in 2024 that include criminal mischief, assault, sexual contact without consent and indecent exposure; attempted robbery and assault in Thornton in 2022; and a 2021 assault in Westminster according to CBS News.

‘Voices in his head’

During an interview shared on X, an elderly man and women, Don and Valerie Caudill, the grandparents of Denver stabbing suspect Elijah Caudill told of their grandson having untreated ‘mental problems,’  also saying that ‘he hears people that aren’t there,’ describing him as a ‘lost boy, who got into cracks and never got out.’ They also described him having a serious drug addiction problem, including smoking synthetic marijuana, having used crystal meth, using fentanyl, along with heroin.

The caretakers who described him ‘like our son,’ said they were done from then on upon their grandson at one point threatening them.

‘I knew he needed help,’ said his grandmother, ‘but I never expected that.’

Caudill appeared in court Monday morning and remained held without bond. He stands accused of first-degree murder of an at-risk elder, first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Authorities continue to investigate.
