An ‘innocent’ woman was shot dead while standing in line at a North Carolina Walmart bank after two gunmen spotted ‘targets’ waiting in the queue next to her and opened fire.
Brandy Nicole Olson, 42, died after she was hit by gunfire while in line to visit the Woodforest Bank at a Walmart Super Center, in Lumberton, N.C on Friday afternoon. Police believe the shooters were attempting to hit two people who they had seen standing in the queue.
Brandy, who had no connection to the assailants, died from her wounds after being rushed to hopsital. No one else was reported as injured. Police say they are treating the shooting as an ‘isolated incident’ and are pursuing ‘several investigative leads’.
Gunned down while trying to get out of the way
No less than six gunshots were heard ringing out from the front of the store near the bank where Olson was shot. According to a witness at the scene, Olson who had dropped in to make a ‘quick deposit’ appeared to be trying to escape the ensuing mayhem when she was accidentally struck by gunfire, WNCN reported.
Wanted in the slaying are Ezekiel Burden, 17, and Brian Campbell, 18, both of Lumberton, according to a Facebook release by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Burden is charged with first-degree murder, discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, and going armed to the terror of the people. Campbell is charged with accessory after the fact.
Tributes were paid to Brandy, a bar worker, by her former employer, Wing Company, in Lumberton. Posted the outlet on Facebook: ‘It is with a heavy heart that we share that a former member of our Wing Company family and a regular patron of ours has passed away due to a tragedy in our community.
‘Brandy Olson was a wonderful, kind-hearted spirit who got along with anyone and could make anybody smile. Please pray for her family, friends and fellow coworkers during this time. We have a memorial seat set up if anyone would like to donate items in her memory. Rest in peace, Brandy. We will miss your smiling face.’
Councilman John Cantey Jr called for an end to gun violence following Brandy’s death according to 11 ABC saying, ‘Enough is enough. Gun violence is getting out of control. Us as elected officials, on a local leve, the county, state, and federal level is going to have to somehow come up with some type of understanding, mutual ground.’
