A Texas man has been arrested for shooting dead his ex girlfriend at her place of work, a liquor store in Houston, Tuesday night according to the Houston Police Department.
Michael Dewayne Wilkerson, 39, is accused of fatally gunning down his ex-girlfriend, 29-year-old Darrell Lynn Tikisha King at Ralston Discount Liquor where she worked.
The woman’s body according to co-workers was riddled with bullets. KHOU reported the victim being shot 9 times, including 4 times in the back.
Leading up to the shooting, surveillance video at the store showed the suspect entering the store with a weapon and actively attempting to evade the store camera by the cash register before confronting his victim and shooting her.
Wilkerson upon his arrest was charged with capital murder and tampering/fabricating, physical evidence, Click2Houston reported.
Police said they identified Wilkerson as a suspect after learning he had previously dated King, KTRK reported.
After checking the liquor store surveillance video, officers said they identified King as the suspect and arrested him on Wednesday without incident.
The woman’s shooting murder follows King recently breaking up with Wilkerson to be with another man.
‘She was a hard worker. She had goals,’ King’s friend Destiny Bradley told KTRK, adding that King had recently broken up with her boyfriend and wasn’t sure how he had taken the news.
‘She didn’t want to be with him,’ Bradley said. ‘She had someone else she was with, so she didn’t want to be with him. She just told him she didn’t want to be in a relationship with him.’
Added the victim’s brother, ‘he just couldn’t accept it.’
Asked what led up to the shooting, Wilkerson told police that his ‘ex had disrespected,’ him, KHOU reported.
