Rebekah Makenzie Tate West Melbourne ballroom dancer arrested after crashing into John Powell Florida motorcylist only to then drive off with the man’s bike still lodged to her car, leaving the man for dead as she is arrested 3 days later.
A ‘glamarous’ ballroom dancer almost killed a motorcylist after crashing her silver SUV into them along a West Melbourne road only to then drive away with the victim’s ‘mangled’ bike still stuck to the front of her car, according to Florida police.
Rebekah Makenzie Tate, 23, was arrested late Wednesday, three days after John Powell, 34, was found with ‘life-threatening injuries’ after being knocked off his bike early Sunday in West Melbourne, Florida, police said.
‘Instead of remaining on scene or calling 911, Tate can be seen driving away with the motorcycle still attached to the front of her vehicle,’ the West Melbourne Police Department said.
Motorcyclist victim left for dead
Surveillance footage then showed her pulling into the parking lot of a Hyundai dealership ‘in an attempt to hide’ — and then trying to ‘remove the motorcycle from underneath her vehicle,’ police said.
The professional dancer — who is also a pianist and harpist — was then seen making a phone call before getting picked up by someone driving a black sedan, cops said.
The woman was arrested as Powell remains in critical condition.
The identity of the individual who picked up Tate was not immediately clear.
‘The force of the crash caused the motorcyclist’s helmet to come off, leaving him in the middle of the roadway with life-threatening injuries,’ the police department said.
‘#scumoftheearth’
A DoorDash driver out on a late-night delivery, Billy LeBlanc, helped to rescue the biker after seeing him lying in the middle of the road, FOX Orlando reported.
‘I wouldn’t wish it on anybody, but I’m glad I was there and was able to help him,’ the Good Samaritan told the outlet.
Tate has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and two counts of attempting to destroy evidence, according to court documents.
The incident led to the Tate’s Instagram being inundated with commenters condemning the ballroom dancer after her arrest, with one commentato writing, ‘#scumoftheearth.’
Tate has pleaded not guilty to the crash at a hearing Thursday, where bond was set at $15,000 on one count and $2,500 on the other count, according to court filings.
Of disconcert were comments made by the victim’s mother underneath the West Melbourne Police Department’s Facebook post about the case.
‘I am the victim’s mother and I couldn’t care less what her circumstances were. She left my son to die in the middle of the road,’ Ari Myrback wrote.
Beautiful on the outside, but ugly on the inside ….
The parent also revealed the extent of her son’s injuries.
‘My son was in the ICU on a ventilator. It will take 6 months to a year, if not longer for him to walk normally again. IF he ever does.
‘I have ZERO sympathy for this woman and I look forward to seeing her pay for what she did to my son,’ Myrback wrote.
