The plot continues to thicken. The boyfriend of an Alabama woman who mysteriously turned up home two days after vanishing when she purportedly stopped to help a toddler in the middle of a busy highway says she was kidnapped and spent the time ‘fighting for her life.’
Carlethia ‘Carlee’ Nichole Russell, 25, was reported safe at home on Saturday night following a two-day search prompted by her screams over the phone when the female motorist claims pulling over to assist a child wandering the I-459, police said.
Thomar Latrell Simmons, Russell’s boyfriend, claims the Good Samaritan was actually kidnapped before managing to escape and return home by foot. The woman was taken to hospital for observation and is recovering as cops wait to interview her.
Fighting for her life for 48 hours?
‘She was literally fighting for her life for 48 hours, so until she’s physically & mentally stable again, she is not able to give any updates or whereabouts on her kidnapper at this very moment,’ Simmons wrote on Facebook Sunday.
The boyfriend’s post reiterate what Russell’s parents previously allege, that the child their daughter tried to help was actually used as ‘bait’ to lure her out of her car and kidnap her.
Simmons thanked everyone who helped to search for Russell along with saying he was grateful the story gained awareness on social media.
‘I have been going nonstop since I received the call that she was missing on Thursday night. I know she would’ve done the same for me, so I wasn’t going to give up until I saw her face again,’ the boyfriend wrote.
‘I just want to thank all of my family, friends, former teammates, & church members who called or texted me just to let me know that they’re praying & here for me; you guys don’t know how much that meant to me,’ Simmons added.
Where is the stranded child that motorist allegedly stopped for?
Questions continue to surround the case, with many wondering how it came to be that Russell was the only motorist along the busy highway who came across an alleged stranded child and why no one else had called 911.
Also not clear is the whereabouts of the alleged toddler that Russell purportedly saved and the fact that the Hoover Police Department not receiving any reports of any missing children in the vicinity.
But perhaps more poignantly, it continued to remain unclear where Russell had been since Thursday and how the alleged kidnapped nursing student came to ‘safely’ return to her Hoover home.
Since returning home, Russell was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, with police saying they were going to give her time to recover before interviewing her.
When officers arrived at the location off I-459 where Russell had reported the wandering toddler around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, they found her running vehicle and some of her belongings, including her phone, but not her or the child, cops said. The alleged child’s whereabouts has yet to be accounted for.
