Jilted man kidnaps, murders ex, 19, a year to the day after previously kidnapping her

Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins, Fayette, Georgia man kidnaps then murders ex girlfriend, Khaliyah Jones, of Lovejoy during stand off with police. Kidnapped woman a year earlier after she broke up with him. 

A 20 year old Georgia man kidnapped his ex-girlfriend from her job in Fayette County Sunday night and then shot her to death when police caught up with him in the next county over. The incident comes after the boyfriend being out on bond for allegedly kidnapping her exactly one year ago to the day.

Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins was charged with one count of malice murder, kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault in the death of his former 19 year old girlfriend, Khaliyah Jones, of Lovejoy, FOX5 reported

Police said Hopkins entered the Wingstop where the victim worked at about 11 p.m. Sunday and forced her to leave with him at gunpoint. Witnesses said they left in a red Camaro, which officers later spotted and began to follow.

Kidnapped a year to the day victim was previously kidnapped by jilted boyfriend 

Hopkins attempted to flee, but officers eventually initiated a PIT maneuver at the entrance to Lovejoy High School in Clayton County, according to WAGA. Hopkins fired on officers, forcing them to retreat and regroup. 

During the standoff, officers heard multiple shots from inside the man’s car. They eventually fired a chemical irritant into the car, which prompted Hopkins to get out. He was taken into custody, with officers coming across the macabre sight of the ex with multiple gunshot wounds inside the vehicle. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, Hopkins allegedly kidnapped Jones for the first time, according to the Lovejoy Police Department.

In that prior incident, he was accused of “dragging a female out of the vehicle at gunpoint” at a Walmart parking lot and “forcing her into his vehicle before fleeing the scene.”  During the first kidnapping, Hopkins allegedly made contact with family members and “expressed his rage over the relationship ending and threatened to shoot and kill Ms. Jones if police attempted to pull him over.”

At the time of the victim’s death, the defendant was out on bond for charges of terroristic threats, kidnapping, criminal damage to property in the second degree, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, and aggravated assault – all of which were related to the previous kidnapping incident, police said.
