Angelina Mena Winter Springs receptionist steals $44K from 76 patients as MacDonald Family Eyecare worker is arrested in credit fraud scheme.
Dreaming with other people’s money. A Florida receptionist suspected of stealing from her employer’s patients has been arrested following months long investigation, cops said.
Angelina Mena was arrested on several charges and booked into the Orange County Jail on Friday, according to Winter Springs Police Department.
Cops declined to specify the type of charges the optometrist receptionist had been booked on.
Credit card fraud is too easy!
Mena’s employer, MacDonald Family EyeCare in Winter Springs, contacted police on March 11 with suspicions of credit card fraud.
‘According to the business, the receptionist Angelina Mena was allegedly illegally using patients’ credit card information to commit credit card fraud,’ the Winter Springs Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Following the conclusion of the 16-month police investigation, authorities were able to file charges with the State Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued for Mena, ABC11 reported.
Police believe that Mena stole around $44,000 from dozens of patients by taking their credit card information.
Mena used a financial services system called Square.
‘During the investigation, Winter Springs Police found that Mena used her own Square account to steal approximately $44,000 from 76 patients,’ the press release added.
Winter Springs Police Department continues to investigate the thefts.
It remained unclear how long Mena had worked for her employer and when the receptionist began to first orchestrate her credit card fraud scheme.
