It was suppose to be a fun weekend get together… A shooting at an Antioch, California birthday led to the death of an 18 year old woman, along with six others injured as gunfire broke out early Sunday morning as ‘uninvited guests’ arrived during a 19 year old teen’s birthday celebrations.
Despite authorities declining to release the identities of victims, the 18 year old fatal victim was identified by her family as Nadia Tirado.
The episode took place just before 1 a.m. in the Bay Area city of Antioch.
Multiple shots fired, multiple victims
Gunfire broke out after ‘uninvited guests’ arrived at the party for the 19-year-old man being held at a Sunset Lane home, ABC7 reported.
Seven people were struck, including two 18-year-olds, two 19-year-olds and two 20-year-olds.
Tirado according to her family, died from her injuries at the hospital.
The other victims are expected to survive, officials said.
‘During the party, multiple shots were fired after some uninvited guests arrived,’ Antioch police said in a statement, according to NBC Bay Area.
‘This created a panic where attendees, including gunshot victims, fled in multiple directions and into the neighborhood. Many victims drove themselves to local area hospitals,’ police said.
No arrests
A neighbor described the aftermath of the shooting as chaotic, telling NBC, ‘I saw a couple girls and people by the door hiding behind the bushes. You can see their footprints right there in the rocks, they were running around like crazy.’
The neighbor, who did not want to be identified, noted that this type of gun violence did not surprise him and seemed to reflect a change in the neighborhood.
Police say no arrests have been made and detectives are interviewing numerous witnesses and residents in the area, and are working to identify any suspects or persons-of-interest.
Police say they are searching for potentially multiple suspects who left in a car before officers arrived.
The Tirado family told ABC7 news Nadia was an amazing person who always put a smile on everyone’s face. They say she made everyone feel wanted.
