A Chicago woman traveling with a man has seemingly vanished, with the woman’s family saying they last heard from her ten days ago after she left the U.S last month to travel to Japan.
Kandace Schipper, 29, was last in touch with her family on June 4, and had been traveling Tokyo in Japan since May 8. Prior to her abrupt disappearance, the woman had been constantly in touch with her family.
She had been traveling with Luis Torres, 27, only for all communication to inexplicably cease, with the woman’s family since filing a missing persons report with Chicago police.

Daily communications abruptly cease June 4
Schipper was last in Shibuya, Japan, after a credit card transaction alerted the family of her whereabouts on June 5.
But family members say that communication between them ‘abruptly stopped’ on June 4, adding that Schipper had been posting on social media regularly.
Her sister Nicole Willea posted a missing poster online, with her husband telling WGN9: ‘Every single day she had been communicating with family and friends.
‘I mean text, phone calls, pictures, updates, Instagram posts. And then it all abruptly ended on June 4th.’
The US Embassy in Japan has been notified and are now trying to locate Schipper.
Tokyo Metropolitan Police say that they are unable to help until Schipper misses her flight home. It wasn’t immediately clear when Schipper was scheduled to return to the U.S.
Unanswered questions
Willea added: ‘I guess it’s [an] issue because technically, her flight home isn’t scheduled yet. So, until she misses her flight home, they won’t even start a report.
‘We’re here stateside. There’s literally nothing we can do. So, this helpless feeling of not knowing if she is in a hospital, is she being held somewhere against her will?
‘Is she hurt? There’s nothing we can even do because it’s in Toyko, Japan. We need feet on the ground over there.’
Schipper is understood to have been staying at the APA hotel, and her last transaction was at JS Burger in Shinjuku.
Schipper is described as having long strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes with a fair complexion and weighing 140 lbs and 5’10” tall while her companion is said to be of medium build, around 6ft, and weighing around 190 lbs, with medium length black wavy hair and brown eyes.
The nature of Schipper and Torres relationship wasn’t immediately clear.
