Detroit toddler Kierre Allen dies after closing car window on her head as dad slept in the front seat. Car was parked in the driveway of family home.
A 2-year-old Detroit girl was killed earlier this week when she ‘accidentally’ rolled up a car window on her head — as her father slept in the front seat, according to a report.
Kierre Allen was in the backseat of a 2005 Mazda 4 with her dad, parked in the driveway of their home on Detroit’s west side Monday afternoon, WXYZ reported.
At some point, her dad fell asleep, according to the report.
As he napped, his toddler daughter apparently pushed the power window button, only for the moving glass sheet to close on her head as she stuck her out window.
The father told of waking up to find his daughter’s lifeless body, with the man calling out, ‘My baby! My baby!,’ alerting relatives to what happened, WXYZ reported.
The girl’s uncle rushed the toddler and her father to Sinai Grace Hospital, where Kierre was pronounced dead.
Exercising due diligence as a parent:
You’ve got to kind of take a look in that rear view mirror once in a while just to see what’s going on back there, especially if it gets really quiet,’ 1st Lt. Michael Shaw of the Michigan State Police told the outlet.
It remained unclear why the father was sitting in the front seat of the parked vehicle and how the toddler came to be sitting in the back seat.
Kierre’s dad was arrested for unrelated traffic tickets, the Detroit Free Press reported.
No charges were expected against the father.
The tragedy follows that of a Belarus woman last month being asphyxiated to death after attempting to retrieve her trapped 2 year old daughter in the family car when the girl ‘accidentally’ pushed a lever controlling the automatic window- causing it to clamp on the mother’s neck as she sought to remove her child from the vehicle.
