What led to Merilee Joyce Turner, a Cudjoe Key, Florida woman killing herself on Facebook Live? Viewers watched on helplessly.

A 53-year-old Florida Keys woman killed herself on Facebook Live — as viewers helplessly watched the footage unfold on their screens, authorities said.

Merilee Joyce Turner of Cudjoe Key was seen wounding herself with an object Wednesday night in a clip livestreamed on the social media site, the Miami Herald reported.

At least a few friends saw Turner’s final moments online, including one who called 911 to report the incident, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded around 10:15 p.m. to Turner’s residence and discovered Turner with what appeared to be a stabbing wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Foul play is not suspected,’ Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt told the Miami Herald. ‘We’re not looking for anybody. It’s obviously self-inflicted wounds, but there could have been other factors involved.’

Facebook has since removed the footage from Turner’s page, which features smiling photos with relatives at the beach.

‘Dear friend you will always have a special place in my heart,’ one friend posted.

Authorities said an autopsy is pending.

According to her Facebook page, Turner was a native of Deerfield, Illinois, and studied at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She had worked at the American Legion Post 154 in Marathon since 2017.

Unclear is what motivated the woman to seek her own suicide death and why she chose to televise her own capitulation live on the social media platform.

Of note, Turner’s suicide death on Facebook Live is yet one of many that has occurred in recent times.
