Athens double murder suicide: What led to William Billy Christopher shooting dead his 10 year old son, Chevy Christopher, 84 year old mother as they slept then self?
An Alabama man has murdered his 10 year old son, his sleeping 84 year old mother before turning a gun on himself and taking his own life.
A statement released by Athens police identified William ‘Billy’ Christopher, 54, shooting 10 year old boy, Chevy Christopher and 84 year old woman, Betty Sue Christopher on Saturday as they slept before turning the murder weapon on himself.
A report via AL.com cited Athens police Capt. Trevor Harris saying the child spending Friday night with his father and grandmother. The next morning, the boy’s mother, Nancy Christopher unable to reach family members by phone contacted a relative who with a key who found the three bodies.
Offered Capt. Trevor Harris, ‘It was a difficult day for us, but it was an unbearable one for the family’.
Court records show Chevy’s parents marrying in Gulf Shores in 2009. The couple separated in April 2016 with William Christopher requesting custody of Chevy. Court papers revealed the former couple settling their contested divorce and custody dispute in September 2016 after agreeing to joint custody.

Investigators have yet to identify a motive for the murder suicide.
