How Supreet Kaur Indian anchor managed to retain her composure after discovering live on air one of the dead in a breaking news report was her husband.
In a surreal episode that has since left viewers shocked, Indian newscaster, Supreet Kaur came to discover the death of her husband in a car accident while reading the news live on TV.
The shock came as the anchor was reading breaking news for India’s IBC24 channel when it became apparent that one of the dead in a car accident was her husband.
During the telecast, Kaur managed to retain her composure as a male reporter announced details about a horror smash over the phone.
While the reporter didn’t identify the victims by name, he did say three out of five people in the car were dead.
Nevertheless there were enough details for the 28-year-old anchor to realize that her husband, Harsad Kawade, was one of those who had lost his life.
She realized that her husband had been travelling in the same model of car, a Renault Duster, on the same road at the time with a group of friends.
Following the report she carried on reading the headlines for another ten minutes.
But she then broke down in tears shortly after the broadcast yesterday morning, the Hindustan Times reports, but only after having walked out of the TV studio after the news hour.
A senior editor said staff learned that her husband was dead while she was reading the news.
They said: ‘But we did not tell her. We did not have the courage.’
‘She got a sense that it was her husband’s vehicle.
‘She read the bulletin and only when she came out of the studio, she started calling her relatives.’
A colleague added: ‘She is an extremely brave lady. We are proud of her as an anchor, but what happened today has left us in shock.’
A report via the UK’s sun told of Kaur and her husband marrying a year ago and she also has a young daughter.
Kaur, 28, has been a news anchor with IBC-24, one of Chhattisgarh’s most-viewed channels, for the past nine years.
After she left the studio, Supreet Kaur headed to the site of the crash.
The two survivors suffered serious injuries when their car was rear-ended by another vehicle.
