24 year old Chinese pop star Zhang Muyi seems to have found himself in some degree of controversy after publicly declaring his love for Canadian baby faced model Akama Miki. Which in most instances would be quite romantic except for the part that Akami is only 12 years old.
The pair set to have initially met via Chinese social networking forum, Sina Weibo have been carrying out their love affair via the forum to the uneasy delight of followers and fans.
So jarring has been their public show of affection, Akami who already has 500 000 twitter followers caused some degree of consternation when she announced on the pop star’s page: ‘Wait until I’m old enough to marry you, and then I’m going to say “I do,” when Muyi in turn posted the following: ‘I simply can’t wait for these next four birthdays of yours to pass, I’m counting down each one.’
According to the UK‘s dailymail the pair have recorded duets, appeared together in music videos, and regularly post photos of themselves online.
With speculation surrounding Miki and Muyi’s relationship now mounting following their posts on Weibo the pair have begun trending on Twitter, with some commentators branding the rumoured romance ‘gross’, while others dismissed it as a publicity stunt.
Incensed, the pop star then retorted via his Weibo page: ‘There’s nothing we can do about this, nor do we feel the need to prove anything to these people.
‘All we can do is continue to persevere with our love, our life, and being together.’
Although on the surface the relationship between these two appears predatory or at least distorted one has to wonder if the two are actually mesmerized by each other and are slowly gaining each other’s trust as well as getting to know each other, despite the very unorthodox nature of their relationship.
Then of course there was this comment that caught my eye too:
these 2 have clearly been taught morals….they are ‘courting’…something that seems to have gone out of fashion…yes she is young and things could change but at the moment they are taking 4 years learning to be friends, companions, both have the disipline of working…they are doing things the right way…they’re not interested in sex before marriage or running away …they come from close knit communities…… un-like the maths teacher and 15 yr old who don’t really know each other…had they ‘courted’ with the parents permission there wouldn’t be a problem now…would there….at 14 i was seeing a 23yr old…my dad, a policeman, kept a close eye on us…I told him everything…when i started work 20 months later things petered out and i finished it….trust plays a big part.
