Siriano seems close to proving he can earn his keep. His Fall/Winter 2011 collection for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week made some surprising choices, and he came out stronger for it. Most surprising was an early lack of dresses- pant after pant, jacket after jacket came down the runway in colors that ran the gamut from obsidian to charcoal. He seemed to be paying homage to Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel throughout the show, with unsubtle references seen everywhere from the authoritarian separates to the fabric choices of certain gowns. Like last fall his final gown was pink, but this year’s featured a semi-mismatched top that added a level of sophistication, if not quite as much red carpet appeal.
A final note- Yes, the first big trip of the season happened at this show. Poor girl, it must have been less stressful to be a model in the days before YouTube.
