The Women’s Mafia Fashion Show: Phuong My, Dominque Auxilly, Priestess by Cody Ross

Some of the dresses even had a bridal air, accentuated by the lacy, feathery headpieces. Sweetheart necklines, elaborate folds and pearl details would make any bride-to-be swoon. One dress in particular just screamed vintage wedding on the Cape: sweetheart neckline sleeves and a full skirt. I think I heard a few commitment-phobes in the audience question their resolve never to marry.

Then came Dominque Auxilla’s designs. These, too, were pretty, well-made dresses but there was a hint of an edge to them. Origami like construction made them less suitable for teatime weddings and more like something Leighton Meester or Blake Lively would wear. Deep hues like purple, magenta and blue in rich fabrics meant these gowns would be right at home on a red carpet.

I would have liked to see a little more variety and daring in the clothes, because when Auxilla ventured outside her safety zone she knocked it out of the park. One dress in particular was pink and black with geometric cutouts around the shoulder will almost certainly make the rounds come awards season.
