The girls’ meticulous re-positioning, flips and throws back intelligently infused lessons learned to evoke sensations pertaining to loss, memory and partnership–“Heroes’” rudimentary concepts. They know where to step, how to hold which leg before jumping, and maintain commendable strength, poise and concentration. Interlocking arms, the audible sweepings of the feet and flight of arms against torso too intensify with increase in muscular atrophy.

The five were accepted into the intensive 12 and a half hour program based on their personal statement, video performance, overall knowledge of ballet, basic technique and will to endure twelve and half hours each week for eight months. Erin is a muscular, strong gymnast– Janelle the daughter to Suzanne Jonna of Suzanne’s Main Street Dance Center.

Given the opportunity to witness the girl’s last rehearsal, just two days before the showcase, I was mesmerized by the fluidity of these dolphins’ movements. Advised to ‘feel long like water’ and not like ‘a short wave’, Calen and Chris choreographed: “We exhaust you the first half so you can dance from a state of presence. Pure exhaustion prevents you from piling on all the bullshit! It sheds your ego, your competitive tendencies,” they claimed.
