Teen shooter used mom’s pump action shotgun
Authorities had yet to identify the teen shooter’s identity, nor his victims along with the Good Samaritan reported to have followed the teen gunman as they barged into a school building where they confronted the shooter after having fired on his victims.
In latest revelations, reports told of the teen using his mother’s ‘pump action’ shotgun during the elementary school shooting. Not immediately clear is how the boy was able to access his mother’s weapon, which the parent had purchased.
Leading up to the shooting, the teen shooter was confronted by a man in front of the school just on 12.59 p.m, after observing the un-identified shooter carrying a shotgun The Source reported.
The teen in turn fired a number of shots towards the man who’d been idling in his red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck before shooting at locks of the school building and making his way inside. The shots shattered a rear window and left six large bullet holes in his vehicle.
Why did 16-year-old teen target Oregon elementary school?
After opening fire on the truck, the assailant allegedly threw his gun over the school fence and hopped over – prompting the driver to call Deschutes County dispatchers at around 12.59pm.
As Bend police officers raced to the scene, the gunman shot at the school’s locked doors – gaining access. It is unclear how far into the building he got before he killed three children, ages five, eight and 11, and one teacher whose age was not disclosed.
The suspect was then found shot and killed.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities would not confirm on Thursday night whether the suspect knew anybody at the school or if he had attended it when he was younger.
The school in Bend, Oregon, which is more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Portland, had 459 enrolled students as of last year, according to the Oregon Department of Education and a staff of 40. The school serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
