16-year-old Bend, Oregon school shooter kills 4 using mom’s ‘pump action’ shotgun, before a Good Samaritan carrying concealed weapon chases teen inside building and shoots him dead, averting further casualties as 3 children, ages, 5, 8 and 11-years old are left dead along with a teacher and two others injured, incluing a 54-year-old teacher and 7-year-old student.
The teenage shooter who opened fire on an Oregon elementary school used a shotgun bought by his mother to kill four people, including three children, police revealed.
Shots were fired at Silver Rail Elementary School at around 12.59pm, Thursday as a 16-year-old teen gunman armed himself with a pump-action shotgun purchased by his mom according to police.
Teen shooter spotted carrying long gun into school
Three children, aged five, eight and 11, were confirmed to have died as well as a teacher, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said during a press briefing.
The teacher’s identity, gender or age was not disclosed. A seven-year-old and a second teacher, a 54-year-old, were also left with critical injuries and transported to a local hospital. Their condition remains unclear.
Police received reports of someone inside a vehicle who had been shot at with a long gun just on 12. 59 p.m, Krantz said.
Officers ordered the school into a lockdown as they reported to the scene.
Cops arrived at the scene by 1.02pm and just moments later, the shooter was killed after a local man chased the gunman into the school building.
Krantz revealed that an armed community member with a legal concealed carry weapon had pursued the teen suspect, who was also a Bend resident, into the school and ‘engaged him.’ The Good Samaritan was believed to have been an armed father, according to social media.
Officers then found the suspect, who had been shot and killed.
‘Officers at the scene located five people who had succumbed to their injuries, including the suspect,’ Krantz said.
Krantz revealed that the suspect had forced his way into the school by shooting at the locks on doors.
Good Samaritan hailed hero
The unidentified hero Good Samaritan who almost certainly helped avert further tragedy and casualties was praised by Governor Tina Kotek.
‘To the community member who heroically intervened…your actions carry a heavy emotional burden and I want you to know my thoughts are with you as well,’ Kotek said at a press conference.
Police have not yet revealed the identities of the victims, including the hero Good Samaritan or the teen shooter.
Kotek applauded the community member’s actions that she said helped prevent ‘further loss of life.’
‘My heart is absolutely broken today… this is a horrible day. No parent should have to have this kind of day,’ she added.

Teen shooter arrives at Oregon elementary school with loaded long gun
The events began when a man driving a red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in the school parking lot spotted the teen carrying a long gun approach the building, according to The Source.
The driver then confronted the teenager, who in turn fired numerous shots at the civilian and his truck, shattering a rear window and leaving six large bullet holes in the vehicle.
At that point, the assailant allegedly threw his gun over the school fence and hopped over – prompting the driver to call Deschutes County dispatchers at around 12.59pm.
Officers ordered the school into a lockdown as they reported to the scene within minutes.
But the suspect forced his way into the building by shooting at locked doors – at which point dispatchers started receiving ‘dozens’ of 911 calls, Krantz said.
The suspect was then found shot and killed.
How did teen shooter access mom’s gun?
‘Today is an awful day for our community,’ Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler stated. ‘Our hearts are broken as we mourn this tragedy and the profound impact it has had on so many people, especially the children, families, educators and school staff whose lives have been forever changed.’
‘A school should be a safe place where children can learn and feel secure,’ Kebler added.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities would not confirm on Thursday night whether the suspect knew anybody at the school or if he had attended it when he was younger.
Authorities had yet to say how the 16-year-old gained access to his mother’s shotgun, nor how recently she had purchased the weapon. The make and model of the weapon had yet to be publicly revealed.
The school in Bend, Oregon, which is more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Portland, had 459 enrolled students as of last year, according to the Oregon Department of Education and a staff of 40. The school serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
