A 57-year-old Pennsylvania woman is alleged to have stabbed her 23-year-old daughter to death at their Delaware County home in Upper Darby, greater Philadelphia while dad worked the overnight shift.
Notice of the slaying at the family residence came after the victim’s father, John Grovola returned from an overnight work shift bearing McDonald’s breakfast for the family just on 6.38 a.m, Tuesday morning, where upon he came across the crime scene and called 911.
Upper Darby Police responded to a stabbing inside a residence on the 200 block of S. Bishop Avenue in Upper Darby shortly after.

Diane Grovola, the victim’s mother was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, criminal homicide and possession of an instrument of crime according to the Delaware County Daily Times.
Grovola is also charged with cruelty to animals for allegedly stabbing the family dog, which survived the attack and which was being treated by a veterinarian for its wounds.
Leading up to the mother’s arrest, responding officers were told Grovola was still armed with a knife. Inside, the defendant was allegedly found naked, covered in blood, and suffering from superficial, self-inflicted cuts to her own body, according to police. The defendant reportedly resisted officers’ commands and was forcibly taken into custody using wrist restraints.
‘[S]orry, I should have stabbed myself first,’ the woman allegedly said after being subdued according to the Delco Daily Times.
The victim’s father said he left his job at the UPS facility at Philadelphia International Airport between 5 and 5:30 a.m., stopping to pick up breakfast for his family at McDonald’s before reaching the residence.
Upon entering the home, the un-identified husband-father was greeted by his blood drenched wife who uttered, ‘I stabbed our daughter.’
No known motive
Upon entering the victim’s bedroom he came across his unresponsive daughter, riddled with multiple lacerations to her face, chest, legs, and back. It was while calling 911, the victim’s mother ‘expressed a desire to die,’ as she proceeded to stab at herself. The suspect then proceeded to take off her clothes along with breaking items in the kitchen.
Despite life saving measures by emergency crew, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:07 a.m.
Officers recovered a large stainless steel kitchen knife with a black handle from the living room wall, covered with blood, believe to be the murder weapon.
It was unclear how long before the father came home that the attack had occurred.
Police had yet to say what led to the mother slaying her daughter, identified as 23-year-old woman, Daniele Grovola.
Not immediately clear is whether the 23-year-old victim lived at the residence along with what led to the mother stabbing her own daughter to death.
Diana Grovola was arraigned this week and is currently being detained in the George W. Hill Correctional Facility without bail. Grovola is next slated to appear in court on Jan. 6, Action News reported.
