Mystery shooter guns down Wood Ranch radiologist and wife
Witnesses stated a man pulling up in their vehicle, alighting, walking up to the couple’s driveway and then opening gunfire, striking the couple before driving off.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital but did not survive, FOX11 reported.
Dr. Cordes had served the Wood Ranch neighborhood for nearly three decades. Adventist Health Simi Valley confirmed his death, calling him a compassionate physician who was loved by colleagues and patients alike. A second medical facility, Focus Medical Imaging, described him as brilliant, hardworking, and deeply respected.
Investigators believe the shooting was not random. Detectives say the couple who neighbors described as ‘well liked,’ and ‘very friendly’ was specifically targeted.
Cops located what is believed to be the suspect’s vehicle (a burned-out black car) at Ayala Park in Chino, CA, nearly 70 miles away in a parking lot at 2.31 p.m.
Officers had been initially dispatched on a call about a car fire. But once they arrived, they found a deceased person lying next to a engulfed black Honda civic, NBC4 reported.
A person was found dead beside the car in what police are investigating as a possible suicide. A handgun was recovered next to the dead man’s ‘burned’ body. Detectives are working to determine whether that weapon was used in the double homicide.

The cause and nature of the driver was not immediately clear. Simi Valley police said they are waiting for confirmation from the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office on the identity and cause of death.
‘It’s rare for us to have a double homicide in our city,’ said Simi Valley Sgt. Rick Morton. ‘We do believe the victims were targeted. We’ll have more information on that as the investigation proceeds further.’
Authorities were now investigating the relationship between the couple and the person found dead in Chino.
Police have not released a motive and have not publicly identified the suspected shooter. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
