4 year old boy falls out of East Flatbush apartment in Brooklyn from the 4th floor as questions are asked how the boy fell to to his death. Incident believed to be accidental.
Where were the parents? A four-year-old boy was killed after falling out of a fourth-floor apartment window in Brooklyn.
The incident occurred just before 3pm Monday in the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn at 3301 Farragut Road.
The child was found on the sidewalk and rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County with the young boy mortally succumbing to his injuries.
Unanswered questions
How the boy came to fall out the window was not exactly known. A preliminary investigation indicated the child may have slipped past a security gate on a window. It continued to remain unclear if a window guard was in place.
Police sources said the boy’s fall appeared to be accidental with no suspicion of criminal activity.
Ashley Lewis was riding in the back seat of her cousin’s car when she spotted the child’s mangled body in the alley behind the four-story, red-brick building.
‘I said, ‘That looks like a baby,’‘ Lewis told the nydailynews. ‘His head was already bleeding. It was spilling from his mouth, his nose and his ears.’
The good Samaritan rushed to the child’s aid but found him suffering horrific wounds and immediately called 911.
‘His legs were turned like they were broken,’ Lewis added. ‘His eyes were turned and his hands were cold.’
What safety measures were in place?
Witnesses described a chaotic scene following the fall, with several people attempting to revive the child
‘You see like 10 different people trying to revive him,’ Nashawna Harley told PIX11. ‘Cops picked him up and ran him over to the ambulance.
‘Where are the parents? Who was watching him? How is this possible? Did the building have bars?’ she asked.
‘Somebody has to pay for this because this doesn’t make sense.’
‘It was horrible,’ said Barbara, a witness, to PIX11. ‘They were hysterical, all upset, howling, saying the kid’s name.’
‘When I saw the baby lifeless and the police running with her I was like this is serious,’ another witness added.
New York City Council member Farah Louis said she was trying to help the community make sense of the tragic loss.
‘We’re definitely reaching out to the family, reaching out to the hospital,’ Louis said. ‘We’re also going to speak to the landlord and to the super to have a conversation about all safety measures put in place so that this doesn’t happen again.’
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
