NJ man, Matthew Hemmelgarn found dead after going to Antioch Hooters Wednesday night. Cops open murder investigation into mystery death.

Tennessee authorities have identified the body of a man who was found  in a rural portion of Antioch, Thursday morning.

The body of Matthew Hemmelgarn, 33, of New Jersey was found along the 1200 block of Old Hickory Boulevard near Murfreesboro Pike. The man’s body was found by the side of the road by a public worker’s crew just after 8am.

Police said there was no I.D on the man’s body and were only able to make a positive identification after they found a key to a room at a hotel on Royal Parkway.

WKRN reported Hemmelgarn checking into his room last Sunday and re-upped his room each day.

Investigators said Hemmelgarn went to the Hooters on Largo Drive Wednesday night. He left around 10:40 p.m. and police are working to determine what happened to him from there.

The nature and death of Hemmelgarn was not made public pending an autopsy.

WKRN’s Andy Cordan in a Facebook post said police have since opened a murder investigation.

Anyone with information about Hemmelgarn, or anyone seeing him late Wednesday night, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
