A former Pocola Oklahoma high school teacher has been charged with multiple offenses after allegedly having sex with three different male students.
Janet Kaye Barnes was indicted by a grand jury for rape and sexual battery on Friday.
The married 44-year-old female educator is accused of having sex with multiple minors between 2014 and 2016.
5NewsOnline reported the woman allegedly having physical interactions with two separate minors between January 2014 and November 2016 while the educator worked at Pocola High School. Barnes faces two second-degree rape charges for each incident.
Barnes is also alleged to have committed sexual battery against another minor, unrelated to the ones she is accused of raping.
She no longer works at the high school. Barnes’ employment contract ran out during her suspension and it was not renewed.
A LeFlore County judge signed a warrant for her arrest and set bail at $250,000, according to court documents reported 4029TV.com.
Second-degree rape has a term of imprisonment in Oklahoma no less than one year and no more than fifteen years.
The sexual battery charge carries a term of imprisonment in Oklahoma no more than 10 years.
To date it remained unclear why the female educator betrayed her position of trust, authority and power and subjugated her underage male victims.
