Ohatchee murder suicide: Trenton Gordon kills baby daughter, and self after domestic argument- while also wounding maternal grandfather in Calhoun County shooting.
A 23-year-old Alabama man shot his 6-month-old daughter and then himself after a domestic argument in which he also wounded the child’s maternal grandfather during the shooting in Calhoun County, Sunday.
Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said deputies responded to a call for a domestic disturbance at Kirkseys Bend, near Ohatchee, around 1 p.m. Sunday. The dispute involved Trenton Gordon, 23, of Anniston, and a woman with whom he had a six-month-old daughter, AL reported.
Wade said Gordon brought the girl with him to the house on Kirkseys Bend, and during an argument, Gordon drew a pistol and shot the child’s maternal grandfather in the arm.
After that, Wade said, Gordon took the girl and left the house, exiting to the street, where he shot and killed the girl and then himself.
Wade said deputies attempted to perform CPR on the infant until EMS arrived, but were unsuccessful. The grandfather was transported to a local hospital. Wade said the mother of the child had filed for a protection from abuse order against Gordon.
Of note, Gordon had possession of the baby for several days, while no formal custody agreement between the man and the child’s mother existed. It remained unclear how Gordon was able to attain possession of the couple’s child despite a protection order against the man.
‘I just hate that this happened,’ Wade said. ‘It’s very sad and it’s just senseless.’
Adding, ‘We’ve been praying for the mother and for the family and will do anything we can to help them.’
