Tayler Boncal a West Hartford, Connecticut teacher is charged with sexual assault after having sex with an 18 year old teen student, with the victim’s parents saying the couple are in love.
Upon her arrest, the student teacher at Conard High School in West Hartford, was charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault.
The teacher’s arrest follows a concerned parent notifying the assistant superintendent for administration, Dr. Andrew Morrow, reported Fox 61.
Morrow launched an investigation on January 12, and Boncal, who was 21 when the alleged relationship began, was fired later that month.
The district also notified the police, with Boncal of Beacon Falls turning herself in to cops on Thursday. The teacher and her student lover had been living in the town of New Britain during the alleged relationship.
Boncal joined Conard High School in December 2017, with school officials saying the teacher never taught or coached the teen. The Hartford Courant reported Boncal working at the school as a student teacher throughout the fall of 2017 and had been kept on as a track coach at the end of the year.
A spokesperson for the Town of West Hartford said the couple were in love. The student’s parents have asked that she not be prosecuted.
Tayler Boncal had graduated in the fall on the Dean’s list:
Conard Principal Julio Duarte sent a letter home to parents informing them of the allegations.
‘I know that there have been rumors amongst students these past few weeks. Now that the police action has concluded, I am able to inform you of an incident that I was made aware of between a former student teacher/assistant coach and a student,’ he wrote.
‘As educators, we are entrusted to protect and educate all of our students and know there are certain boundaries that can never be crossed. Also, we will not tolerate any behavior that compromises the safety or well-being of our students.
‘ I hope you will not let the misconduct of this one individual cast a shadow over all of our staff members who demonstrate their commitment to our students every day.’
According to her Facebook page, Boncal was a student at Woodland Regional High School and Stony Brook University. Boncal was a track star at Central Connecticut State University. Boncal graduated from the school in December 2017, after having made the Dean’s List for the fall of 2017.
