Spanish eleven year old girl gives birth to 14 year old brother’s baby son after rushing to hospital in an ambulance believing she was suffering from severe stomach cramps.
Local media reported the child giving birth at Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital in the city of Murcia in south eastern Spain on Friday after she was admitted with ‘stomach pains’.
Following the birth, hospital officials revealed both mother and baby ‘doing well’.
Officers called in to probe the identity of the father found he was the older sibling of the child, whose mother is a Bolivian immigrant.
Sources revealed the brother was 13 when he impregnated his then ten year old sister and under Spanish law will not face any criminal proceedings because the boy is below the age of criminal responsibility.
The UK’s Sun noted Spain previously raising the age of consent from 13 to 16 in 2013 but an exception is made if sex is consensual when the boy is of similar age or stage of development and maturity.
Local reports cited the girl and her parents claiming they were unaware the teen girl was pregnant and had called an ambulance to go to the hospital believing she had a serious intestinal problem.
DNA tests will now take place to confirm the family claims about who the baby’s father is.
Regional Health authority boss Manuel Villegas described the case as ‘absolutely exceptional’.
Adding: ·‘We have to wait now. An investigation is still ongoing and when everything has been clarified, we’ll see what has happened and if we can help in some way.’
Spain’s local journal reported there was no evidence to suggest the two siblings had not had consensual sex.
The above incest case follows that of a North Carolina father who now faces charges over claims he fathered his own daughter’s baby.
