Breana Harmon pleads guilty to black man gang rape hoax fantasy: How one Texas teen played on a community’s prejudice to deflect attention from her own woes.
Appearing in court last Thursday, Harmon agreed to a plea deal for felony charges of tampering with physical evidence and government documents in connection to the March 2017 incident, the Sherman Herald Democrat reported.
The felony charges follow Harmon initially being charged with a misdemeanor upon her arrest. However, Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown in a news release said that the charges were upgraded to felony after realizing the gravity of the harm that she had committed
Told Breana Rachelle Harmon‘s attorney, Bob Jarvis, ‘She’s very remorseful for what she did and what she said and that’s why she decided to plead guilty’.
Authorities said the teen filed a false report to police in March 2017 claiming to have been abducted and raped behind a church in Denison, Texas.
A then 18 years old Harmon who also goes by the name, Breana Harmon Talbott, showed up at the local church covered in blood and wearing only a shirt, bra and underwear. Worshippers told authorities that she claimed three black men took her into the woods and raped her.
She later told investigators that a black man in a ski mask pinned her down while two others sexually assaulted her.
Harmon was brought to a hospital for examination, where doctors determined she didn’t suffer any injuries consistent with her claims.

After police questioned black men in the area and were unable to find the three-man white-girl rape team, Harmon eventually confessed that she had made up the allegations. By then the teen’s actions did much to tarnish the reputations of African Americans in the area who came to be widely repudiated and vilified following the teen’s false claims.
Which is a back hand way of saying at no point did anyone doubt the veracity of Harmon’s story despite her near none injuries upon rushing into a Denison church espousing her story. Which might or might not betray local’s attitudes towards those of us who are not white.
Harmon relented, telling cops she’d been in a fight with her then fiancé, Samuel Hollingsworth, prompting her to go into the woods and cut herself. Afraid of her family’s reaction, Harmon said that she didn’t correct church-goers who found her bloody and asked if she was sexually assaulted.
The teen’s lawyers said that her ‘unusual’ personal history may have prompted her to stage the hoax.
Reiterated Jarvis, ‘Let’s just say she has some fairly unusual circumstances that I think they’ll be interested to hear about.’
Harmon is scheduled to be sentenced March 20.
