Anthony Holmes a 30 year old Pottsville, Pennsylvania man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a friend’s dog in the face because it was barking.
The incident happened Saturday night, circa 8:20pm, when the dog’s owner, Holmes and two other men were at a residence on West Market Street.
Police say Holmes, 30, took out a gun and shot his friend’s dog in the face after becoming angry over the dog’s barking at him before fleeing.
The dog – a 10-year-old German Shepherd mix named Diddy, fled the scene, before being retrieved and taken to a veterinary hospital where the animal was treated for egregious injuries. To date it remains unlikely Diddy will ever be able to see out of his right eye again.

‘They said that he was very lucky to even be alive,’ Hillside SPCA Assistant Manager Tricia Moyer-Mentzer told WNEP. ‘He was shot in his face. The bullet is still lodged in his face.’
‘It’s gruesome,’ Moyer-Mentzer added. ‘I just can’t understand what goes on in someone’s mind to just think it’s OK to just shoot an animal directly in the face. It’s animal cruelty. That’s what that is.’
Holmes was eventually tracked down where upon he admitted to shooting the dog with a .38 caliber revolver and then hiding the gun at the home of an acquaintance.
Upon his arrest, Holmes was booked into the Schuylkill County Prison on charges of aggravated cruelty to an animal, possessing instruments of crime, recklessly endangering another person, cruelty to animals and discharging a firearm in the city.
The man remains in jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
