August Ames dead: Did an adult entertainment star kill herself after being subjected to recent trolling on social media after denying claims she was homophobic?
Authorities have told of adult actress August Ames having been found dead in southern California, Tuesday.
Law enforcement sources said she was pronounced dead at the scene, and there was no indication of foul play.
Police did not give a specific location as to where the actress purportedly took her life.
While the Ventura County Medical examiner confirmed the 23 year old entertainer’s death, they declined to issue an official cause of death.
That said, a report via hollywoodlife, noted a spokesperson from the Ventura County Medical Examiner Media office revealing, ‘Mercedes Grabowski died of asphyxia due to hanging. [The] manner is suicide.’
Toxicology tests were pending.
Prompting speculation as to the woman’s believed suicide death, friends said a recent online incident may have triggered Ames into taking her own life.
The dailymail reported the actress subjected to a torrent of online abuse from cyberbullies after posting on Twitter under the social media handle, @AugustAmesxxx, that she would not be doing a scene with a male performer who had previously done gay porn.
August Ames: ‘I have the right to choose who I work with.’
Posted Ames, December 3: ‘whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNews, you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say. Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? #LAdirect I do my homework for my body.’
Ames claimed that medical testing was different for straight vs gay sex scenes, and did not want to participate.
Following the post, Ames was accused of being homophobic, as social media users demanded the adult star issue an apology.
‘NOT homophobic,’ she said in response to the accusations. ‘Most girls don’t shoot with guys who have shot gay porn, for safety. That’s just how it is with me. I’m not putting my body at risk, i don’t know what they do in their private lives.’
August Ames suicide: How the adult entertainer rose to be a star only to end up as a victim.
Told Ames’s husband, Kevin Moore, via industry trade magazine Adult Video News (AVN), ‘She was the kindest person I ever knew and she meant the world to me,’
Adding, ‘Please leave this as a private family matter in this difficult time’.
The site reported Ames being born Mercedes Grabowski in Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1994, and worked in a bar and at a tanning salon before joining the adult film industry in 2013.
Following confirmation of Ames’s death, an outpouring of condolence from friends and industry peers filled up Ames’s Twitter page, with many describing her as a kind person with a big heart.
‘Rest In Peace to August Ames, one of the best, nicest people I ever knew in the business,’ producer Jules Jordan wrote in a tweet.
Fellow adult entertainer, Abella Danger described Ames as ‘the most kind-hearted person ever.’
‘I f*****g loved this girl so much… I am so sorry that I didn’t know it was this bad … we are all so broken hearted, you were truly loved by so many,’ industry photographer and friend Holly Randall said.
In her brief four-year-career, Ames starred in more than 270 films and nabbed a nomination for Best New Starlet at the 2015 AVN Awards. Ames also scored a nomination for Female Performer of the Year in 2016, 2017 and the upcoming 2018 Awards, set for January.
Ames’s death has since raised disconcert with the nature of the adult entertainment industry, of its demands and expectations of performers, with some remarking that the entertainer’s death was a tragic and ironic one, having risen to great heights in the industry, but ultimately overwhelmed and negated by the nature of her work and status as a star adult entertainer.
