Megan Kotarski an Illinois charter teacher is charged with sexual abuse after hosting a booze party at her home and sexually preying on a teen student.
Megan Kotarski a 28 year old Illinois charter school teacher was on Tuesday arrested and charged with sexually abusing a 16 year old student.
The former Chicago southwest side teacher was booked after allegedly having sexual contact with the teen between June 16 and 18 of this year reported the Chicago Sun-Times.
The alleged incident reported the tabloid occurred whilst the English teacher hosted a ‘booze-soaked party’ for students at her house over the summer.
Kotarski turned herself in to police Tuesday, after an investigation began earlier this month into the alleged misconduct by the former Horizon Science Academy Southwest Chicago teacher.
Upon her arrest, Kotarski was charged with a felony count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between 13 and 18 years old.
Appearing in court on Wednesday, Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Santini told of Kotarski having bought beer and inviting students to her house between matches for summer-league volleyball teams, with the teacher at one point began drinking shots of liquor with the teens.
At some point during the revelries, prosecutors told of the female teacher having grabbed a 16 year old boy’s hand and moving it underneath her shirt, then into her pants.
Christopher Murphy, director of strategic growth & PR for Concept Schools, said Kotarski had worked at the school since 2014, and resigned Nov. 10.
Told Murphy, ‘As the allegations involved a minor, the school contacted the [Illinois] Department of Children and Family Services and Chicago Police.’
Judge Stephanie K. Miller ordered Kotarski held on $10,000 bail. She will be barred from having contact with minors who aren’t relatives if released on bond.
