Katherine Ross Ridenhour a Concord, North Carolina high school cheerleading coach and science teacher has been accused of having sex with one of her male teen students.
Upon her arrest on Wednesday, the Charlotte Observer reported the family and consumer science teacher at Cox Mill High School being taken into custody.
Concord Police in a released statement said the 23-year-old educator was engaged in a consensual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Following her arrest, Katherine Ridenhour was charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a student.
Authorities told WBTV that one of the alleged incidents happened on school property following the investigation which was launched on Monday following claims against the woman.
A school spokesman said Ross resigned on Tuesday, one day after police were informed of the inappropriate relationship.
One parent told WBTV they were shocked that teachers keep getting arrested for inappropriate relationships with students.
‘I can’t even wrap my head around how disturbing it is, and why it keeps happening. How far do they go to a teacher’s background, are they going to make sure we’re not letting teachers inside our school with our child,’ the parent said.
