Gabrielle Bauman pleads no contest: Hiawatha, Kansas biology teacher admits to having six month sexual liaison with teen student.
Gabrielle Bauman a former Hiawatha, Kansas biology teacher on Monday pleaded no contest to an alleged six-month sexual relationship with a teen student.
The woman’s guilty plea admission follows the 24 year old teacher’s arrest in August after being accused of having sexual relations with one of her students between November 2016 and May 2017.
The Hiawatha Police Department conducted an investigation after a report was made to school administrators in mid-June.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill told Hiawatha World Online that the criminal complaint alleges the conduct occurred while Bauman was employed as a high school teacher at Hiawatha High School.
Gabrielle Bauman pleads no contest: Will potentially have to register as sex offender.
The criminal complaint indicates the alleged victim being a ‘person 16 years or older who was a student enrolled at Hiawatha High School where the offender was employed’.
According to WIBW, Bauman resigned in July after teaching anatomy and biology at Hiawatha High School in Hiawatha, Kansas, for just one year.
Hill said that by entering her plea, Bauman will potentially have to register as a sex offender for a period of 25 years. Bauman was freed on a $5,000 surety bond. She’ll return to court for sentencing on January 22.
She was a student teacher for one semester and then was hired by the district as an instructor for the 2016-2017 school year.
Bauman was arrested on August 29 on charges of one count of unlawful sexual relations, a level 5 person felony.
To date it isn’t clear what led to the teacher abusing her position of trust, authority and power and sexually preying on her male teen victim. The episode follows the ongoing trend of female school teachers sexually preying on teen boys.
