Dmitry Baksheev and wife Natalia Baksheev confess to being a Russian Cannibal family killing and eating 30 people over 18 years.
Dmitry Baksheev has told Russian interrogators that he was part of an alleged cannibal family that over the course of 18 years killed and ate 30 individuals.
The disclosure comes after road workers found a cellphone along a street in the town of Krasnador, southern Russia in which images showed a man, later revealed to be Baksheev, posing with a woman’s head and hand.
Taken in for questioning, the man along with his wife, Natalia Baksheev, 42, initially denied participating in any deaths, claiming to have come across a dead woman whom they decided to take photos of. It wasn’t until a further search of the area led to police on September 12, discovering the dismembered woman’s body that the couple confessed to being part of a cannibal family.
A search of the couple’s quarter’s at a military academy where they lived and worked in the town led to the morbid discoveries of up to eight body parts. Police are now checking for more human remains to assess the veracity of Baksheev’s confessions.
Along with photos and body parts, and a collection of cell-phones, believed to have belonged to the couple’s victims, local news source Livekuban.ru. reported investigators discovering ‘video lessons for cannibals’.
Investigators search Dmitry Baksheev home only to find body parts, more photos and human cooking recipes:
During interrogations, Natalia Baksheeva gave confessions and identified more than 30 victims from the photographs. She told the investigators that she and her husband had killed them, and then eaten their victims. Previously, all victims were considered missing.
Since the couple’s detention, Natalia underwent psychiatric tests, with the wife judged to be ‘mentally healthy’. Tests validated the wife being an ‘absolutely healthy adequate person who fully accounts for her actions’.
The couple are alleged to have stored human remains in their fridge and freezer as well as a cellar, according to sources in the Russian Investigative Committee, which examines serious crime in Russia.
A search of the couple’s living quarters led to seven packs of frozen body parts being found. The couple also preserved some ‘meat’ in jars, with one image showing what is alleged to be human remains pickled in a jar.
Some 19 remains of ‘human skin’ were also discovered which had been ‘removed from dead people’ noted the dailymail.
Other discoveries included canned flesh, body parts in saline solution, frozen human meat, and ‘recipes’ for cooking a human. Fragments of bodies were also reported to be found in the courtyard and in the basement.
Dmitry Baksheev confesses to cannibalism after a woman’s body is found near his home:
It wasn’t until investigators first recovered female body parts on September 12, on land linked to a military academy at 135 Dzerzhinskogo Street, Krasnodar in a cellar that Dmitry and Natalia were proven to be tied to the cannibal crimes.
A bucket and bag contained body parts. Another bag was filled with the dead woman’s possessions.
A recovered photo showed a cut-off head possibly belonging to the severed woman along with her skull.
Natalia Smyatskaya, senior assistant to the head of Krasnodar Investigative Committee, confirmed that the pictured dead woman had been identified. Officials declined to reveal her name.
That said it was revealed the victim was 35, and had came to live in Krasnodar from Omutinsk town in Kirov region. It wasn’t clear whether the woman’s family or friends had filed a missing report on her whereabouts.
Other discoveries at the couple’s hostel home at the military base included a picture showing a human head on a plate surrounded by oranges. Investigators dated it from 28 December 1999 -further augmenting Dmitry and Natalia’s claims of having taken part in cannibalism activities over the last 18 years.
How Dmitry and Natalia Baksheev were able to ward off suspicion:
Local media told of the pair using ether and a Russian drug Corvalol (main substance is Phenobarbital) to make their victims sleep.
The smell of the drug reeked from their room in a hostel at the military academy, according to neighbors.
Local media reports told of the couple living in the hostel of the Military Aviation Academy belonging to the Russian Defence Ministry.
Told a worker at the facility: ‘Each time we tried to enter their room, they started wild shouting and crying.
‘Natalia is a scandalous woman, aggressive, so we did not risk it.’
Investigative committee official Smyatskaya added that the initial criminal investigation is into the death of one woman.
Other alleged murders are ‘being checked by our officers’, she said.
