Aphiwe Mapekula a 23 year old Mount Frere, South African man has been shot dead after proceeding to eat a woman he’d momentarily beheaded on September, 9.
The man’s death told local reports came after Mapekula refused to yield to police demands as he continued to eat into his victim’s raw flesh.
Police later identified the victim as 35 year old woman, Thembisa Masumpa.
Witnesses told of the South African cannibal ‘collapsing’ in a hail of bullets as he was splayed with bullets as police tried to arrest Mapekula at his home.
Despite being taken to local Nelson Mandela hospital, the gunned down man died three days later as a result of his injuries.
Police later said they had no choice after the cannibal attacked them with a knife reported South Africa’s TimesLive.

Investigators accuse Mapekula of having slit his victim’s throat before hacking her head off. It wasn’t clear what relationship Masumpa had with her assailant.
Neighbors said the victim did odd jobs at Mapekula’s home and was washing in the back yard when she was attacked.
South Africa’s dailydispatch told of Mapekula’s mother calling cops after witnessing the ‘gruesome’ slaughter.
Told the mother, ’I never raised a son like this one. I never imagined this.’
Captain Mjoko said via the heraldlive, ‘He killed her with a knife by cutting her throat.
‘When the mother of the suspect saw what was happening she rushed and called the police to the scene.
‘When they arrived the suspect was busy eating the flesh of the deceased.
‘Police ordered him to stop and to hand himself over.
‘He went berserk and stormed at them with the knife.
‘Several warning shots were fired to deter him but in vain.’

Responding to the mayhem, Mayor Bulelwa Mabengu said he suspected Mapekula could have been under the influence of drugs.
‘I believe that drugs and substance abuse was a major contributing factor and yearn to call upon law authorities to show a more proactive visibility in our area,’ she told RNews.
Of note, the incident is the second cannibal incident in South Africa in three weeks.

The incident follows reports of six men in the town of Estcourt allegedly in custody raping, murdered and butchered local 25 year old woman, Zanele Hlatshwayo before parts of her were eaten.
Notice of the crime came after one of the men involved in the woman’s murder walked into a local police station saying he was ‘tired of being forced to eat human flesh.’
Police investigating the tribe of cannibal witch-doctors went on to find eight human ears in a cooking pot as it emerged villagers were coerced into eating flesh because it would make them bulletproof.
Up to 300 residents allegedly admitted eating humans and digging up graves reported the dailymail.
Grim details of the case have emerged as the spiritual healers’ homes were raided with officers discovering a number of severed body parts and human remains stuffed inside suitcases.
