Rayna Culver a Trenton, NJ school teacher is accused of adopting a former teen student only to sexually prey on the boy on an ongoing basis.
Rayna Bochenek Culver a 43 year old married New Jersey school teacher has been accused of carrying a sexual relationship with a 15 year old male student after having adopted the boy.
Upon her arrest in May, the Burlington Township woman was charged with second degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Prior to having adopted the teen, the boy had been a student of Culver’s at Rivera Middle School in Trenton, where the woman had started working in September, 2013.
A criminal complaint cited the pair having being ‘very close’ and often ‘talking’ to each other during the school year noted the trentonian.
It was when the boy was thrown out of a relative’s home in December, 2015 that Culver insisted the boy stay with her.
A report via South Jersey Times told of Culver becoming the boy’s legal guardian, early 2016. The boy later told investigators that he believed Culver opened her home to him in the expectation of ‘making sex a part of their relationship.’
The victim said by June, 2016 their ‘mother and son’ relationship had turned sexual, when one night Culver fondled the boy before bedtime, stripped off his clothes and proceeded to perform a sex act on him before physically engaging the boy.
Noted a criminal complaint, ‘After that first incident, they would engage in sex often, and it was to the point where he felt that if he told her to stop she would get mad and kick him out of the house’.
At one point, the 15-year-old allegedly sent Culver a text message saying he no longer wanted to have sex, only for the ‘adoptive mother’ re-affirming her desire to carry on the affair.
The teen told investigators that he had sex nearly every day over the course of several months with his former teacher.
In April, the alleged victim gave authorities his cellphone containing text message exchanges with Culver, whose phone number was listed under the entry ‘Mom’.
In the course of their conversations, Culver and the teen reportedly discussed sexual acts.
A search of Culver’s home in May yielded two cellphones, as well as ‘potential bio fluid.’
Culver’s attorney dismissed the allegations against his client as ‘completely fabricated and made up,’ while describing the accuser a ‘troubled young man.’
According to Culver’s LinkedIn account, she was hired by Trenton Public Schools as a climate and culture leader, drawing a salary of more than $96,000 in 2016.
She graduated from Steinert High School in Hamilton and earned a bachelor’s degree from West Chester University in elementary education.
In a Facebook post, Culver said she got married in July 2003. She also posts numerous pictures of herself with the man who is apparently her husband.
On May 10, Culver was arrested at her home on Tudor Drive in Burlington Township, which she has been sharing with her husband of 14 years.
After making her initial court appearance, Culver was released on the condition that she have no contact with the victim, or anyone under the age of 18.
Yet to be necessarily understood is how the mother and son were able to facilitate in sexual engagement while living in the same house as the father (which is to wonder, did the husband know?) and why in fact the woman usurped her position of authority, trust and power to subjugate the teen boy?
